In early May 2024, I submitted an application with the Town of Woodstock Enhancement Committee to be considered for one of the artists to have their artwork adorn one of the VDOT signal light boxes located throughout the town. I knew I wanted to create something bright and colorful that anyone and everyone could enjoy. The instant inspiration that I had was a coral reef. So, I got busy and over the course of a week in April, I poured my creative juices onto a canvas.
Let me introduce you to "The Reef". This piece was painting using acrylic on canvas.
On May 21, I opened up my email to find an message announcing that I was one of the five artists selected to have my artwork featured on one of the boxes. The artwork will be created as a vinyl wrap that is then installed on the boxes. I was surprised, shocked, excited and I would be lying if I didn't say that some tears were shed.
On June 20, the wraps began to be installed throughout town and I am incredibly honored and humbled to reveal mine. The Reef is featured on the signal box at the corner of Main Street and West Spring Street, in front of the Blue Ridge Hospice and across from St. Paul's United Church of Christ. I hope that it brings a smile to people's faces as they walk through town or drive by.
